SEAN YSEULT On ROB ZOMBIE: 'As Soon As You're Not In His World, You're Out Of His World'

January 6, 2011

Patrick Huguenin of New York's Daily News recently conducted an interview with former WHITE ZOMBIE bassist Sean Yseult about Sean's new book, "I'm In The Band - Backstage Notes From The Chick In White Zombie". A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Daily News: How did you first meet Rob [Zombie]?

Sean: We met at CBGB, then we saw each other in the [Parsons] school cafeteria, and it was kind of funny because he actually sent his roommate over to talk to me first. We basically moved in together that night and were never apart for seven years.

Daily News: Where did you live?

Sean: I had a really, really nasty apartment on Delancey and Clinton. It was on the fourth floor, walkup, facing the Williamsburg Bridge. Like, the bridge was literally right outside the window. The place was about $500 a month and I had two roommates, and one of 'em slept in the kitchen and the other one, my friend Tracy, shared the bedroom with me.

Daily News: Sounds cozy.

Sean: Boy, that apartment, it was crazy. Rob moved in with me there, and our friend Leon stayed in the kitchen, too. Leon was from New York and had played in punk bands, so there were these, like, crazy — they weren't called gutter punks back then, but I'd call them the equivalent of gutter punks — climbing up our fire escape and banging on the windows at all hours of the day and night, just for somewhere to crash. There was one sink, in the bathroom, and it was colored in every color of hair dye from everybody coming over and dyeing their hair at our place.

Daily News: What is your relationship with Rob today?

Sean: Zero. He hasn't spoken to any of us in the band since the day we broke up. ... As soon as you're not in his world, you're out of his world. He just kind of moves on. No hard feelings at all, but that's just how he is.
